South America and Antarctica

Posted by mrpulley on 24 March 2010 in English (English)

I've just returned back from my first overseas trip in 14 years. I wasn't able to do a lot of mapping while away, but I have a list of some things to add, including fixing gaps in some roads in Patagonia (Argentina and Chile), and traces to almost complete the roads at El Chaltén. Not many roads in Antarctica(!), but I'll be able to add some island names, also add some tracks at Gritviken on South Georgia.
Santiago airport was an interesting experience on the way back home. The buildings were intact, but there had been damage to the ceiling structures from the recent earthquake, so baggage check-in and domestic flight waiting areas were temporarily in tents in the car park. The city seemed to be functioning well around the damaged areas, but I didn't see where the epicentre was. The quake happened on my way to South Georgia, so I didn't see any pictures of the epicentre until after I returned home.
The location tag for this entry is approximately how far south I got.

Location: Almirante Brown Scientific Station
