Mapping Havana, Cuba

Posted by bahnpirat on 5 August 2009 in English.

I saw PB on State of the Map. So I take a look on Cuba and realize, there is a good Yahoo image on some places like Havana. But no one seems to use this to draw some was there. Asking PB he mentioned few people and internet access there. So I had an idea:
Now I and some other people from Germany mapping by satellite image. German comunity is big and have good internet access. Sucsess is unbeliveable. Starting with 19.2 MB in whole Cuba we now have 26.9 MB after 4 Days. We improve coastline, draw landuse polygons, residential areas, road, tracks, lakes, river, streams, (set nearly all tags here), and power lines. I had fun drawing some seperated trees there. You can help to!

I read the mail and started in La Habana. Some outskirts, mainly (seemingly) residential roads. However, it is hard to decide how (seemingly) major roads should be tagged.

I actually have some tracks from a year or so ago that I got through surrupticiously bringing in a data logger to the country. Mainly of Pinar del Rio province. Guess I should get around to uploading them!
