Lousy street names of the week

Posted by Richard on 17 June 2009 in English (English)

Cycling round yet another Burton housing estate last night, I was amused to find a cul-de-sac called Deferrers Croft. It's clearly meant to be named after De Ferrers, some local hero or other. Unfortunately the lack of a space on the street sign makes it look like a street dedicated to procrastinators.

This was topped, however, by the next cul-de-sac along: Telmah Close. Hamlet backwards. Ugh, just ugh.

Location: Shobnall, East Staffordshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, England, United Kingdom

Actually, I think Telmah's a creative name, almost an Easter Egg in the good sense. I'm reminded of the classic Curiosities of Biological Nomenclature compendium.

Escot Road's are apparently common around stores of Tesco.
I know of one: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.41862&lon=-0.42667&zoom=16&layers=B000FTF
