From adding boreen ways to adjusting national boundary relations, my OSM journey enables me to connect with home, history, and my sense of self.

I’ve mostly focussed on the town of Castlebar (Co. Mayo, Ireland) and the surrounding area.

I have the following focus areas:

  1. corrected Mayo townland names using data analysis
  2. OSM map notes
  3. golf courses (Why not!)
  4. water courses – from drains to the sea
  5. split townlands and complicated naming
  6. tourist attractions (hotels, parks, trails, etc.)
  7. correct navigation and local road labels

Many of the thousands of townland place names in Ireland have minor errors as they were copied manually in an amazing OSM effort. I focussed on Mayo and corrected the approx. 5 % error rate with open data and a simple Python script. Mayo is fixed.
