First steps

So...

I won a book at the London Perl Workshop 2010. Or rather, I won THE book - http://www.openstreetmap.info/

Neat. I've always liked maps. So I read it, thought 'oo, neat', downloaded a couple of iPhone apps and made a mental note to do something about it.

Son's birthday today. Picking up a friend from an address in Peterborough that doesn't show up on a map, because it's too new. It's not even on my GPS. Maybe it's about time....

Grabbed my first couple of trails using Trails on the iPhone - not perfect, so I'll be driving round the estate again later this week to get better ones, and then... bingo. Editing time, and then OSM will be more up to date than The Other Sites.

And so it begins... you realise that the person who mapped your area missed a few details. The area around your kid's school doesn't seem quite complete.... What? Nobody's mapped *every* lamppost in Peterborough?? Good luck!

As co-author of said book I would encourage you to notify any errors you find on the "errata" page on the link you noted - so we make the 2nd edition even better. Enjoy your mapping! It is good to do on so many levels.
From just down the road (in Enfield) - Steve
