Started mapping Pontianak

Posted by MarkusMüller on 12 April 2010 in Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia)

Today I finally decided to start mapping Pontianak (the capital of the province of West-Kalimantan in Indonesian Borneo).

Bits and pieces of Indonesia

Posted by MarkusMüller on 27 October 2008 in English (English)

Finally all data collected from a longer trip is in OSM. This includes some streets in Jayapura, Sentani, Biak and Wamena. On Pulau Biak some cross-island roads can be found.

Kupang is much more complete by now, although the finding of street names is still troublesome.

Posted by MarkusMüller on 1 August 2008 in English (English)

Yesterday I adde the small town of Malino and some streets around it. Seems this is the first time somebody submits data on Sulawesi...

Now I will start with some parts of Papua.

Busy weekend in Kupang, Indonesia

Posted by MarkusMüller on 7 July 2008 in English (English)

We were very busy this weekend driging around and getting GPS tracks for the major roads of Kupang (and around). Now there is data about the harbour, the road to Tablolong and a number of POIs, mainly hotels and restaurants. Will keep me busy the next days to clean up all this stuff...

First experiences with JOSM / Kupang reclassified

Posted by MarkusMüller on 4 July 2008 in English (English)

Today I made my first experiences with JOSM and I have to say I am pretty much impressed. As a 'GIS specialist' I am still surprised how well OSM works and JOSM is a very well engineered and easy to use tool for a task that usually is quite complex. I cleaned up my so far uploaded data with it needing not much time at all.

And - I reclassified Kupang. It has about 300.000 - 400.000 inhabitants and the provincial capital. I guess it therefore qualifies as 'city' (it was a 'town).

First data for Kupang, West-Timor, Indonesia

Posted by MarkusMüller on 3 July 2008 in English (English)

During the last week I started creating data with my Holux GPS in Kupang. Kupang is the provincial capital of Nusa Tenggara Timur, in South-Eastern Indonesia.

Today my entries can be seen for the first time. :-) It's nice to start mapping a blank spot in OSM, has some kind of explorer feeling to it. ;-)
