Just mapping a local branch of the “Harvester” chain of restaurants, and torn as to what type of cuisine to class it as…?

I’ve gone for “cuisine=steak_house”, but what do others use?

See http://www.harvester.co.uk/theploughchelmsford/

and

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:cuisine

“Barbecue” / “American”…? Nothing really sits well as “right” with me for the chain.

I’d be interested in any feedback.

Their main menu is labelled “Harvester Salad and Grill” in the logo, as are the logos on their website, so if I were to use the cuisine tag I’d use cuisine=salad_and_grill (in the style of fish_and_chips). This would fall under the “user defined” category on the wiki page you link to.

I think steak_house is the closest to what it is. salad_and_grill just doesn’t look right and I am not a fan of inventing new types just for 1 thing.

Let’s face those that go there you might eat salad there but you not going out go there for salad…even pizza hut has a salad bar.

A quick look at the harvesters tagged in the uk only 4 have cuisine defined. 2xsteak_house (including yours), 1 x british and 1x farmhouse so no real consensuses there.

Hi both,

Thanks for that.

Yes, although I’m very much a newbie with OpenSteetMap, I was very conscious of just “adding” my own new tags as Ed first suggested, and have to say I’m with Rovastar on the feeling that it’s bad to create new types to fit one place…but that said, I can understand that every category has to start somewhere after all.

I’d looked at the other Harvesters myself (forgot to mention that, sorry), so I reckon I’ll leave it as “steak_house” for now.

Thanks again to you both for the feedback.

Regards
