change - Kohlrausch Park, North Billerica, MA, USA

Posted by Gooserider on 16 January 2010 in English (English)

I live on Kohlrausch ave, park does NOT extend on both sides of street, I deleted the part on the north side, as that is where my house, and that of two neighbors is located.

The park itself is also not correct / complete - part of the area shown is the park, part is conservation land, and part is a "paper street" that goes from the existing end of Kohlrausch Ave. to Colson St. Also the park is partly open grass space containing a parking lot, a children's playground and a baseball field all on the Colson St. side, with a swath of wooded area between Kohlrausch and the park area. I do not have a GPS to accurately map the correct locations of the facilities, but they are not right to my eye as currently shown.

The park outline is probably from the import of the MassGIS open spaces layer. Most of this layer goes back to paper maps which were digitized and traced. They are often wrong about the locations of green spaces, often by about 100 meters.

I see there is another green spaces in the middle of Talbot Avenue which is shifted with reference to the road.

Thanks for the comment - I also noticed the Talbot Oval mismatch, but didn't feel comfortable trying to correct it, as I don't have the GPS gear to ensure that the coordinates are right - I don't know if the problem is with the green space, the road, or both...
I will say in general that the area looks very different on the map than how it "feels" just traveling around the neighborhood - don't know if it is because the map is inaccurate, or just that my eyeballs don't measure so well ;-}
