An abandoned outdoor movie theater in Desert of Sinai, Egypt

Posted by 51114u9 on 14 March 2014 in English (English)

bing_map Photo by Bing Maps and OSM data

I heard about this place for an article and reading the blog of photographer Kaupo Kikkas, he details some peculiarities:

... How come that there are no cinemas in the middle of the desert?

He flew back to Paris and arranged some money. After that he went to Cairo to buy original old seats and projection equipment from an old cinema theatre. Then came back to Sinai, arranged generator for electricity a monsterous tractor to pull up the screen that was like a gigantic sail. And now everything was more or less ready for the premier.

Only detail he forgot was that this nice desert happens to be in Egypt. Country where local authorities are not too happy about such enthusiasm and spirit, specially if it comes from a crazy frenchmen…

At the premier evening everything went "accidentally" wrong, their electricity generator was sabotaged and no movies were ever screened at the End of the World Cinema. ...

Bolivian Floods

Posted by 51114u9 on 7 February 2014 in English (English)

Torrential rain and floods in Bolivia have killed 38 people and left many homeless (42000 families). The Ministry of Defense said it had flown in food aid and the army was evacuating families from the worst affected regions, Trinidad City - department of Beni, Ixiamas - northeast of the capital La Paz and indigenous communities (Yuracaré people) on the banks of the Chapare River in the central department of Cochabamba.

We need help with tracing buildings, waterways and roads.

WikiPage Bolivian Floods

I wrote in spanish language the wiki page 2014 Bolivian Floods of the event.

LandSat8 Imagery

From OSM Colombia Talk List:

After a request from Humberto, a Landsat-8 cover of Bolivia is available, in "natural colors" (red, green and blue - 4, 3 and 2 Landsat bands), and also in "false colors" (infrared, near infrared, and green - 7, 5 and 3 Landsat bands), as suggested by Harrierco. (This makes water more visible). The images have less than 10% cloud cover, and were taken between August 2013 and February 2014

Mapping city (from scratch), railway station & the salt flat of Uyuni

Posted by 51114u9 on 7 January 2014 in English (English)

With some time, I decided to improve the map of the city [1], railway station and the salt flat of Uyuni [2].

Uyuni

Uyuni is a city in the southwest of Bolivia [3]. It was founded to house the first largest railway station and major railway junction. Almost every road in the city are separated by a center field. Salt flat of Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat with a pool of brine, which is exceptionally rich in lithium.

Train Cemerety (original photo [4]):

Salt Flat of Uyuni, place appreciated by photographers because you can play with the reflection of puddles of water and lack of perspective (original photo [5]):

The Map

This city will be part of the competition Dakar, I added the much information as possible ... since all the previous information was made by tourists.

I removed all previous roads and started from scratch to map. I added most of the hospitals, schools, gas station and places of common use. In the vast majority of the buildings I added 3D tags.

TODO: Points of interest, the surface & number of lanes of the roads and others.

UserScript for #OpenStreetMap

Posted by 51114u9 on 24 July 2013 in English (English)

Hello,

My script is available which improves the appearance of the page OpenStreetMap. The idea was going around and today I decided to write and share.

The script is very simple, remove the left menu and enable a floating panel to the search box. Not perfect, but it's a start and maybe add the links removed as a retractable panel.

The project is hosted on GitHub https://github.com/51114u9/osm-clean-ui Use the GreaseMonkey add-on in Firefox or TamperMonkey in Google Chrome.

Enjoy!

###

Hola,

A disfrutar!

Editando Cochabamba...
