In UK do remember to check layers other than imagery. There are old maps (useful for checking names of places or natural features) and two Ordnance Survey Open Data layers: StreetView (updated twice a year) and Locator (similar update). The latter shows apparently missing or mis-named streets on OSM. (They have enough errors not to be trusted over OSM contributors, but are entirely suitable for adding missing features)
