Those footpaths are seen on historic map overlays eg OS 1 inch 1955-61.
I also found them on the rights of way map at http://webmaps.hertsdirect.org/row/row.htm
The official designation of these footpaths are NORTH MYMMS 007 and NORTH MYMMS 008 which are described in detail at http://www.hertsdirect.org/docs/pdf/n/DS10NMymms.pdf
I have added this detail to those footpaths and as official designated public footpaths I think they should continue to be shown on the map to encourage their use, even if there is minimal visibility on the ground.
I walked FP 8 (aligned north-south) recently. Even though they are not marked on the ground there are waymarkers at each end.
Simple answer then is for more people to walk the paths frequently, as this is the only way that footpaths generally get "marked" on the ground.
